Its traditional at the end of the year we look back at our lives and set resolutions for the coming year. I am looking at my life now, how the past year has been and what changes I would like to have in the coming year.
There are many ways of thinking about our lives. One way of doing it would be to look at the many roles that we play in life ?
There are many ways of thinking about our lives. One way of doing it would be to look at the many roles that we play in life?
I am a mother, wife and yoga/meditation teacher.
How did I do in these roles the past year?
What changes would I like to make?
How we live is a reflection of us. Do we measure up to our own expectations or how we how see ourselves? One of the things that brings happiness or contentment is that we have balance or control over the different aspects of our lives.
As the ancient Roman philosopher Epictetus wrote:
“The worthwhile things are the virtuous activities that make up the happy life, not the external means that may seem to produce it.”
“The future depends on what you do today.” – Mahatma Gandhi
What is the aspect of your life that you are excited about? Focusing on what excites you today will lead you to action right now which will create the future you want.
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
– Rumi
